This month's featured Author - Brenda Gurr

Brenda Gurr

Brenda Gurr has a background in both primary and secondary teaching. She is an experienced educational editor and author of resources in several curriculum areas, including history. Brenda holds qualifications in English, education, drama and editing.

Her top selling release on World War I uses a student inquiry approach to explore five major aspects of the wartime experience. These are: Outbreak of war, At war, The home front, After the war and Remembering war.

Each topic contains information text that allows students to consider what it might have been like to live through this dramatic period in history and its relevance to our lives today. These are followed by a range of activities that guide students through the general stages of the inquiry method − investigating, analysing, creating and sharing ideas and information. Activities are designed to be completed individually or in groups. They cover such skills as drama and role-play, writing in different genres, organising information, sequencing and independent research.
